KIGALAMA SCHOOL BLOCK
New Classrooms for the Children of Maranatha Kigalama
Andy Stewart, a successful businessman by occupation and hardworking philanthropist by disposition, has been a friend and supporter of Maranatha since its inception. He and his teams were responsible for funding and constructing the Maranatha schools in Nkonya and Mizigo. His formula is simple - he raises all the money himself, keeps strict accounts of expenses, and provides opportunities for hands-on participation in the actual construction.
This year, Andy took his son, Arik, and his friend, Chris Callahan, to Uganda to help build the first permanent school block at the Maranatha School in Kigalama. With the help of others, Andy raised just over $23,000 for its construction. The new building is approximately 2,500 square feet and includes two classrooms, an office, and a storage room. Andy, Arik, and Chris helped the local masonry crew by hauling bricks, mixing and hauling mortar, and laying bricks.
